Juneteenth Community Gathering & Potluck at Palmer Park

Detroit Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression is presenting this Juneteenth Community Gathering & Potluck at Palmer Park from 2-6pm on June 20th because they believe that as a community, we must break away from “city-led” Juneteenth programs that cloud the true origins of this celebration and falsely suggest that the freedom of Black people has been fully achieved. Juneteenth is not simply a date on a calendar or a festival to be consumed—it is a reminder of resistance, resilience, and the unfinished struggle for liberation.

While we honor the ancestors who fought for freedom, we must also confront the realities facing Black Detroiters today: displacement, economic inequality, environmental injustice, over-policing, and barriers to housing, education, and opportunity. True freedom cannot be celebrated without acknowledging the systems that continue to impact our communities.
This Juneteenth, they invite you to gather in community, not as spectators, but as active participants in shaping a future rooted in justice, self-determination, and collective care.
Join grassroots organizers, artists, dancers, and community members for a people-powered discussion on what true liberation means for Black Detroiters. Together, we will reflect, connect, create, and imagine pathways toward a freer and more equitable future.
Freedom is not a destination—it is an ongoing struggle and a shared responsibility.
✊🏾 Come learn. Come build. Come organize. Come celebrate.
