The SAVE Act (Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act) is a harmful voter suppression bill that just passed the U.S. House and is now headed to the Senate. It would require people to prove their citizenship with documentation before registering—even though it’s already illegal (and extremely rare) for non-citizens to vote.
Why this matters:
- Over half of Americans don’t have a passport.
- 80% of returning citizens leave incarceration without a state ID, Social Security card, or birth certificate.
- Married women, trans people, low-income voters, students, and military personnel would face unnecessary documentation burdens.
The SAVE Act is essentially a modern-day poll tax, disproportionately disenfranchising those already at risk of exclusion.

🗳️ 2. Michigan Voters: Demand Truthful Language on a New Ballot Proposal
A Michigan ballot initiative from the so-called “Committee to Protect Voter Rights” seeks to amend the state constitution to mirror the SAVE Act.
🗓️ The Michigan Board of State Canvassers (MBOSC) meets Friday, April 18 at 10 AM to vote on the 100-word summary language that appears at the top of every petition.
