Find VAAC at Community Events This Week

Voting Access For All Coalition will be at several community events in Detroit and Highland Park this July. VAAC will provide nonpartisan voter education, help eligible Michigan residents register to vote or check their registration, and answer questions about voting.

Michigan’s Primary Election is Tuesday, August 4, 2026. The deadline to register online or by mail is July 20. Community members can visit VAAC to register to vote, check their registration, and ask questions about voting eligibility

Brightmoor Free Store | July 11

VAAC will be at the Brightmoor Free Store, which provides free clothing, household items, linens, toys, baby items, personal care products, and other items. Breakfast will also be served.

LIGHT-UP Livernois 2026 | July 11

LIGHT-UP Livernois is a free street festival featuring fashion, art, design, music, food, and activities for families. The festival will take place along Livernois Avenue between 6 Mile and 8 Mile roads.

Children Funday | July 11

Children Funday will include free food, music, painting, hula hooping, games, and other activities for children and families.

Avalon Village Community Resource Fair | July 11

Avalon Village’s third annual Community Resource Fair will bring several free community resources together in one location. Available resources will include health and wellness services, mental health support, housing information, utility assistance, education, financial resources, food support, legal services, and more.

The Re-Joyce Engagement Center Grand Opening | July 15

VAAC will attend Y-VAC’s grand opening of The Re-Joyce Engagement Center. The center is named after Joyce, an educator, matriarch, and elder who navigated living with disabilities.

The grand opening will begin at 4:00 PM and include food, music, giveaways, and an opportunity to learn about the new center.

Good Trouble Weekend of Action | July 17-19

VAAC will also participate in local events during the Good Trouble Lives On Weekend of Action. The national weekend honors the legacy of civil rights leader and Congressman John Lewis and focuses on civic education, community outreach, voter registration, and peaceful action.
