Step 1: Register

You must be registered before you can vote. Once you are registered in a Michigan, you can vote in any election that you are eligible to vote in (i.e. elections in your community). If you move within Michigan, and you update your driver’s license or state ID your voter registration will be automatically updated. If you move to a new state, you will need to register in that state.

Step 2: Vote

You have several options on how to vote. Choose the option that is best for you.

Vote Early in Person

  • Vote in person before election day.
  • Early voting is available a minimum of 9 days, beginning the second Saturday before Election Day and ending the Sunday before Election Day
  • Early voting is required for statewide and federal elections, and optional for local elections.
  • Look up early voting location, date and time for your city or township.

Vote Early with an Absentee Ballot

  • Apply for your Absentee Ballot and get on the permanent Absentee Ballot list.
  • You can fill out your Absentee Ballot at home.
  • Return your Absentee Ballot in one of several ways.
  • Absentee Ballots can also be processed at early voting sites.
