Yes, You Can Vote in Michigan!

EVEN IF…….

  • You have a Felony Record,
  • You are on Probation, Parole, or tether,
  • You are awaiting arraignment, trial or sentencing
  • Your housing is unstable,
  • You do not have Michigan ID

There are only a few restrictions on voting in Michigan. Voters must be a U.S. citizen, reside in Michigan, at least 18 years old, and not serving a sentence in jail or prison.

Apply for your absentee ballot at the clerks office.


Return ballot through the mail, at a drop box or at your clerks office. Be sure to sign and date the envelope.

Note: Once ballots are available, you can apply for an absentee ballot and vote in the same visit by visiting your city or township clerk’s office or satellite voting location.

Track your absentee ballot to make sure it was received. 

OR Vote on Election Day

If you are NOT registered, you can register to vote and vote at the clerk’s office up until 8 p.m. on Election Day.

If you ARE registered on Election Day, you must vote at the polls (be sure you go to the correct poll!).

Note: If you requested an absentee ballot but didn’t receive it, or changed your mind and want to vote at the polls, you can. (Bringing ID and your ballot if you have it isn’t required but will be helpful.)
