Election Day Is Over, But Your Ballot May Still Need Attention! Deadline: Friday, November 6 at 5 PM

Election Day may be over, but the work to count every vote isn’t finished!

Some Michigan voters who returned absentee ballots need to correct a missing signature or a signature that doesn’t match the one on file with their local election clerk.

This process is called ballot curing, and it gives voters an opportunity to fix a signature problem so their otherwise valid ballot can be counted.

The deadline to cure an absentee ballot signature is Friday, November 6, 2026, at 5:00 PM.

How Do You Know if Your Ballot Needs to Be Fixed?

Your city or township clerk is responsible for reviewing absentee ballot envelope signatures and notifying voters when there is a problem.

You can also check the status of your absentee ballot at mi.gov/vote.

If your ballot was rejected because your signature was missing or didn’t match the signature on file, you can submit a signature cure form to resolve the issue.

How to Cure Your Michigan Absentee Ballot

The Michigan Election Protection Program has shared a five-step online process at BallotCure.com:

  3. Provide identification information. Follow the site’s instructions to upload or photograph the front of your ID and enter the requested ID number or last four digits of your Social Security number.
  4. Add your signature. Sign your name in dark ink on white paper and take a photo of your signature.
  5. Review and submit. The service states that your completed affidavit will be emailed to you and your local election office.
