A growing community art project

At a recent pop-up at Urbanrest in Ferndale, community members of all ages created artwork reflecting their experiences and ideas about voting rights, civic participation, democracy, and community voice.

Visit VAAC’s Facebook and Instagram pages to see photos from the day.

Each collage, painting, drawing, and written reflection adds to a growing collaborative artwork that tells the story of how people think about and experience voting rights and democracy.

The completed project is headed to ArtPrize

The completed Voting Rights Community Art Project has been selected for ArtPrize 2026.

The installation will be exhibited at Fountain Street Church in Grand Rapids during ArtPrize, September 17 through October 3, 2026.

There is still time to be part of the project. Join us this Saturday in Hamtramck and contribute your own artwork, words, or reflections.

The Hamtramck pop-up sounds interesting. I wonder how the local community is getting involved with the art project.
