VAAC will be out in the community during the first week of August, sharing nonpartisan voting information, answering questions, and connecting eligible voters with the resources they need.

Upcoming events include family gatherings, Black August programs, voter education, community resources, and events recognizing the legacies of John Lewis and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Valley Girls Annual Barbecue

The Valley Girls Annual Barbecue will bring families and community members together for an afternoon at Palmer Park in Detroit.

VAAC will be there to share Michigan voting information and connect with attendees.

Stand On Business

Stand On Business is a day honoring Black men, their families, and the communities that support them.

The event will include conversations about mental health and wellness, community violence intervention, creativity and healing, and civic engagement, along with performances, food, games, vendors, family activities, and community resources.

VAAC will be on site sharing voter education and information about voting rights in Michigan.

Black August: Donate + Help

The Black August: Donate + Help event will support 21 years of service to Detroit families through donations of school supplies, backpacks, water, food, volunteer time, and financial contributions.

The day will also include live entertainment, free food, face painting, bounce houses, games, and community resources.

VAAC will provide voter education during the event.

Clinton Township Gratiot Cruise

VAAC will provide voter education at the Clinton Township Gratiot Cruise.

The day begins with a car show at 11:00 AM. The Family Fun Zone will be open from noon to 4:00 PM, and cruising continues until 6:00 PM.

Good Trouble Lives On Community Rally and Mutual Aid

The City of Oak Park will host a community rally honoring the legacy of John Lewis through music, speakers, children’s activities, food vendors, voting rights organizations, and mutual aid.

VAAC will join other voting rights organizations at the rally. Attendees are also invited to bring diapers, wipes, bottles, clothing, toys, menstrual products, and other supplies for mothers and young children supported by Greater Girls, Greater Women.

This event was rescheduled after air-quality concerns affected the original Good Trouble Lives On weekend.

Unite & Rise for Voting Rights

The League of Women Voters of Michigan will mark the anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 with a live and virtual screening of Three Marches, Two Sisters, One Bridge.

The documentary tells the story of two Selma Foot Soldiers and their work for voting rights in 1965. The program will include a question-and-answer session with the sisters, local panelists, and a discussion led by VAAC.
