Michigan HJR-B: A Direct Attack on Voting Rights

Michigan’s HJR-B is a dangerous and anti-democratic policy. It impedes legitimate access to vote, despite the fact that our voting system is already secure from fraud.

Immediate Call to Action

Contact Lawmakers: We urge you to reach out to your state legislators immediately, urging them to vote NO on HJR-B. This resolution seeks to amend the Michigan Constitution by imposing unnecessary and stringent voter identification requirements and mandating in-person citizenship verification for voter registration. These barriers would disenfranchise thousands of eligible voters, particularly Black and Brown voters, low-income communities, and those impacted by the criminal legal system.

HJR-B is a Direct Attack on Justice-Impacted and Marginalized Communities.

By focusing on these actionable steps, we can mobilize our communities to fight HJR-B and protect the voting rights of all Michiganders—particularly those who are formerly incarcerated, justice-impacted, and historically marginalized.

HJR-B is not just about voting restrictions—it is about silencing the very communities that have fought hardest for their rights. If passed, it would disproportionately harm:

  • Black and Brown voters, who are already targeted by voter suppression laws and misinformation campaigns.
  • Low-income communities, where access to government-issued IDs and required documentation is more difficult to obtain.
  • Individuals reentering society after incarceration, who face systemic barriers to reintegration and already struggle with misinformation about their voting rights.

We know that restricting access to the ballot box is a tactic used to uphold power structures that exclude those most impacted by unjust policies. By blocking efforts to expand voter access, HJR-B reinforces the very inequities we are fighting to dismantle.

We Need Urgent and Collective Action

The time to act is now. If we do not stop HJR-B, thousands of Michiganders could lose their right to vote, further entrenching disenfranchisement in our state.

We must:
✔ Make our voices heard by contacting legislators and demanding they vote NO.
✔ Spread awareness in our communities, ensuring people know their rights.
✔ Join forces with advocacy groups to fight voter suppression at every level.

This is our democracy, and we must fight to protect it. We cannot stand by as our rights are stripped away.
