Fairs, expos held across the state

Automatic expungement is now a reality in Michigan, but petition expungements can still clear more kinds of offenses than are allowed by automatic expungement. For that and other reasons, automatic expungement may not be the best choice for everyone looking for an expungement. While obtaining an expungement by petition is more complicated, there is help.

Safe & Just Michigan is working with partner organizations throughout the state to help people access free or low-cost expungement help at the events listed below. Please note that these dates may change and should be considered tentative; please follow Safe & Just Michigan’s social media on Facebook and Twitter and stay subscribed to our newsletter for the most up-to-date information:

  • Detroit: The Wayne State University expungement fair will take place Friday, Nov. 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Wayne State University Law School, 471 W. Palmer Ave. in Detroit. This is event is co-sponsored by Wayne State University Law School, the Miller Johnson law firm and the Michigan Attorney General’s office. Register for this event HERE.
  • Dearborn Heights: The city of Dearborn Heights expungement fair will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, at the Richard A. Young Center, 5400 McKinley St. in Dearborn Heights. This event is co-sponsored by the city of Dearborn Heights and the Michigan Attorney General’s Office.
  • Saginaw: The city of Saginaw will host an expungement fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, at the Saginaw Community Action Center, 2824 Perkins St. in Saginaw. This event is co-sponsored by the city of Saginaw Public Defender’s Office, state Rep. Amos O’Neal’s office, Saginaw County Community Action and the Michigan Attorney General’s Office.
