With the November 3 election approaching, understanding Michigan’s court system and the role of the Michigan Supreme Court is an important part of voter education.

Please join Voting Access For All Coalition (VAAC) on Friday, October 9, from 12:30 to 1:30 PM ET at vaac.me/Fridays for a special statewide community meeting featuring Justice Kyra Harris Bolden of the Michigan Supreme Court.

We’ll take a closer look at how Michigan’s court system works, how cases move through the courts, and why the Michigan Supreme Court matters to all of us. We’ll also explore how Michigan Supreme Court cases differ from cases that reach the U.S. Supreme Court, and how court decisions shape people’s rights and daily lives.

This meeting will cover:

• The roles of District Court, Circuit Court, the Michigan Court of Appeals, and the Michigan Supreme Court
• What kinds of questions the Michigan Supreme Court decides
• What determines whether a case may be heard at the federal level
• Significant Michigan Supreme Court decisions and what they can teach us about the Court’s role
• Why voters’ choices in judicial elections matter
• Community questions and discussion

This nonpartisan conversation is an opportunity to learn, ask questions, and feel more prepared as we head into Election Day.
