VAAC ambassadors will be out across Michigan this week, bringing voter education and registration support into community resource events, shelters, expungement fairs, and other spaces where people are already connecting.

We’re also heading to Grand Rapids for ArtPrize, where you can visit and vote for the Community Voting Rights Art Installation created by VAAC and Indivisible Metro Detroit.

September 18-20: Find VAAC at ArtPrize in Grand Rapids

VAAC and Indivisible Metro Detroit are bringing the Community Voting Rights Art Installation to ArtPrize 2026 at Fountain Street Church in Grand Rapids.

Created through community art-making pop-ups across Southeast Michigan, the installation brings together hundreds of individual pieces exploring voting rights, democracy, civic participation, representation, access, and whose voices are heard.

The ArtPrize main event begins Friday, September 18, and public voting opens at noon. The Community Voting Rights Art Installation is Entry 26487.

VAAC will be tabling at Fountain Street Church throughout the weekend. The installation will be open 12:00-8:00 PM Friday and Saturday and 12:00-6:00 PM Sunday. An Opening Celebration begins Friday at 5:30 PM.

On Sunday, September 20, join us for special programming connected to the installation:

9:30-10:30 AM: Chapel Time / ArtPrize Artist Talk
Mary McGeehan, the art teacher who has been leading the creative production of the project, and Angela Davenport, VAAC Executive Director, are expected to speak.

12:00-2:00 PM: Friends & Family Event
Join us in the chapel at Fountain Street Church for the Friends & Family Event. VAAC will also be capturing stories as p  of the day’s activities.

Friday, September 18: Caravan of Love in Detroit

The Caravan of Love: Resource, Wellness, and Community Engagement Tour makes its next stop in Detroit’s District 7, bringing community organizations and resources directly into the neighborhood.

The event will include resources focused on mental health, violence prevention, workforce development and training, youth programming, housing, and more.

VAAC will be there providing voter and civic education and voter registration support.

Friday, September 18: Muskegon/G.U.N.S. Expungement Fair

VAAC will also be in Muskegon Heights for the Muskegon/G.U.N.S. Expungement Fair, where volunteer attorneys will help community members review their records, check potential eligibility for expungement, and navigate the process.

The fair will also offer community resources and limited funding assistance for processing fees. Walk-ins will be accepted until 2:00 PM, but pre-registration is strongly encouraged.

VAAC will be tabling with voting information and resources.

Friday, September 18: Alternatives for Girls in Detroit

VAAC will provide voter education and registration support at Alternatives for Girls, which works with homeless and at-risk young women in Detroit.

This is part of VAAC’s ongoing work to build relationships with shelters and social service organizations and bring voter education, civic education, and registration support directly to the people they serve, both during election season and throughout the year.

Saturday, September 19: Auntie Na’s Village in Detroit

VAAC will continue that outreach Saturday at Auntie Na’s Village on Detroit’s west side.

VAAC will share voter education, help eligible residents with voter registration, answer questions about voting rights and the voting process, and provide information to help people prepare for the November election.

Saturday, September 19: No Excuses Community Plan Event in Detroit

VAAC will be at the No Excuses Community Plan Event for a day of free resources, family support, and community connection.

The event will include mobile health vans, free food, giveaways, back-to-school backpacks, community resources, and free hair styling and haircuts for kids.

VAAC will be on site providing voter registration support, ballot education, and civic education. Stop by to register to vote, ask questions about voting in Michigan, and get information about the ballot and the voting process.

VAAC will be tabling at a free Expungement Fair in Clinton Township, where community members can learn about the expungement process, speak with legal professionals, and receive guidance about possible next steps.
