Local governments continue taking action in opposition to documentary proof of citizenship requirements and in support of Michigan’s current election system.

These proposals would require people to provide specific citizenship documents, such as a passport or birth certificate, in order to register to vote, creating new barriers for eligible voters. In Michigan, voters choose our leaders, not the other way around. These requirements would make it harder for many people to participate in elections.

Communities across Michigan are responding by passing local resolutions opposing these requirements.

Public Comment Takeovers are happening this Monday, April 20, giving community members the opportunity to speak directly with local officials in Southfield and Lansing.
