Michigan’s Day of Empathy brought community members together in Detroit last week for a day of reflection, connection, and action focused on criminal legal reform.

Hosted by Silent Cry Inc. and Dream.org, the event centered the voices of people directly impacted by incarceration, along with their families and communities. Speakers shared personal experiences and spoke to the ways the criminal legal system continues to affect daily life across Michigan.

Voting Access for All Coalition (VAAC) was proud to co-sponsor the event. Executive Director Angela Davenport joined fellow speakers in highlighting the importance of civic participation and ensuring that communities most impacted by the system have access to the ballot and a voice in the decisions that affect their lives.

Day of Empathy creates space for people to share their experiences, build connections, and strengthen ongoing efforts toward justice and meaningful change.
