Voting Access for All Coalition (VAAC), in partnership with Indivisible Metro Detroit, launched the first in a series of Voting Rights Art Installation pop-ups this week, bringing community members together to reflect on what voting means in their lives.
The first gathering created space for people to share personal stories, perspectives, and experiences through written and visual expression. Community members contributed pieces that reflected their beliefs about voting, their family histories, and why protecting voting rights matters today.
The result was a powerful and growing collection of voices that will become part of a larger installation highlighting the importance of voting rights across our communities.
The next pop-up will take place this Saturday, March 21 at the Huntington Woods Library and Cultural Center (26415 Scotia Rd, Huntington Woods, MI 48070) from 2-4:30pm. Additional dates are scheduled throughout April and May as this series continues across the region.
Community members are invited to stop by, create a piece, and add their voice to the installation. Each contribution becomes part of a collective statement about voting rights and civic participation.
No art experience is necessary. An art teacher will be on site to help you get started.
These gatherings create space for creative expression, reflection, and community connection. No special skills are needed, and collaborations are welcome.
