Michigan is one of only six states with no policy for Good Time or Earned Time Credits. Because of our 100% Truth in Sentencing law and the lack of a Good Time policy, incarcerated individuals in Michigan serve approximately 126% of their minimum sentence or 6.5 years on average. Consequently, we are #1 in the country for length of time served. This results in 3.9% of our state budget being spent on corrections each year with no demonstrable benefit. Seeing Good Time restored in Michigan would not only help bring our loved ones back home, but would save the state billions of dollars.
It has never been more urgent that we allow people to earn time off their sentences and give all incarcerated people a meaningful opportunity for release. Good Time Makes Good Sense!! Let’s get on the same page to bring our loved ones home!
