Vote Early, Vote Informed: What You Need to Know for Michigan’s August 5 Primary

Early voting starts June 26—make your plan now!

At Voting Access for All Coalition (VAAC), we believe in breaking down barriers to the ballot and making sure every eligible voter knows their rights. The August 5, 2025 Primary Election is coming up fast, and you don’t have to wait until Election Day to cast your vote.

Starting Thursday, June 26, you can vote early in person with an absentee ballot at your local clerk’s office. If you prefer to vote by mail, we encourage you to request your absentee ballot today to ensure enough time for delivery and return.

Some communities—including Detroit, Pontiac, Southfield, and Novi—will also offer in-person early voting at designated sites starting in late July.

Key Dates for the August 5, 2025 Primary Election:

  • Now – Request an absentee ballot online or by paper
  • June 26 – First day to vote in person by absentee ballot at your clerk’s office
  • July 7 – Some communities begin early voting at designated sites
  • July 21 – Last day to register online or by mail to vote
  • July 22Recommended last day to mail back your absentee ballot
  • July 26 – First day of in-person early voting in Detroit, Pontiac, Southfield, Novi & more
  • August 3 – Last day early voting may be offered
  • August 4 @ 4 PM – Deadline to vote absentee in person if you’re registered
  • August 5Election Day! Polls open from 7 AM to 8 PM. You can register and vote at your clerk’s office until polls close.
