VAAC ambassadors have been out in communities across Michigan, bringing voter and civic education into places where people are already gathering, finding resources, and connecting with one another.

Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve joined a back-to-school event in Highland Park, community programs in Detroit, and National Voter Registration Day outreach at the Robert J. Delonis Center in Ann Arbor.

At each stop, VAAC has been sharing accurate voting information, answering questions, helping eligible community members register to vote, and helping people prepare for the November election.

4th Annual Pull Up & Play Back to School Day

Back-to-school season brought families together in Highland Park for the 4th Annual Pull Up & Play Back to School Day.

The afternoon included school-supply giveaways, games, food, and resources for parents, while VAAC was there sharing voter education and registration information with community members.

Events like this bring important resources into one place for families and neighbors, and VAAC was more than ready to add practical voting information to the mix.

DFA 313 Votes: Our Power at the Polls

VAAC joined DFA 313 Votes: Our Power at the Polls at Pages Bookshop in Detroit for an interactive screening of Selma Sisters March On, followed by discussion and creative storytelling focused on youth participation in democracy and women’s voices.

VAAC shared ballot education with participants, including information about Proposal 1.

Voter Education at Crossroads of Michigan

VAAC spent time at Crossroads of Michigan in Detroit talking with community members about voting rights and preparing for the November election.

People had the opportunity to check their registration, get registered if needed, look at a sample ballot, learn about early voting, absentee voting and Election Day voting, and ask their voting questions.

This is part of VAAC’s ongoing work to build relationships with shelters and social service organizations and bring voter education, civic education, and registration support directly to the people they serve, both during election season and throughout the year.

BarberShop Talks: Your Voice, Your Vote, Your Power

BarberShop Talks brought voter education, community partners, and conversation together at The District Detroit Opportunity Center.

The conversation focused on getting accurate, nonpartisan voter information into places where people already gather, including barbershops, salons, nail shops, laundromats, gas stations, restaurants, and other neighborhood businesses.

Thank you to When You Vote I Win, Speak Life Identity Coaching Concepts, the Michigan Department of State, Michigan LCV Education Fund, The District Detroit Opportunity Center, Barcos Foundation, and everyone who joined the conversation.

The work continues through Shop Talks, including the next roundtable on September 28 at the Sterling Heights Community Center.

National Voter Registration Day at the Robert J. Delonis Center

On National Voter Registration Day, VAAC brought voter education directly to the Robert J. Delonis Center in Ann Arbor.

Folks had the chance to check their registration, get registered if needed, look over what they can expect on the ballot, learn about different ways to vote, and bring their questions into the conversation.

The Delonis Center serves people experiencing housing instability, one of the communities VAAC intentionally works throughout the year to reach with clear, practical voting information and support.

Thank you to the Robert J. Delonis Center for welcoming VAAC in for National Voter Registration Day and creating space for residents to get the information they need ahead of the November election.
