From August 26 through August 28, Mothering Justice, The ARIAH Foundation, Omari Maynard, and community partners will present In Her Honor Detroit, a three-day experience dedicated to honoring mothers lost to maternal mortality and advancing maternal health justice.
Through film, community conversation, storytelling, celebration, and art, In Her Honor Detroit will bring together families, advocates, artists, healthcare professionals, policymakers, birth workers, and community members.
The events will honor the lives and legacies of Black mothers and birthing people whose stories continue to shape the movement for safer pregnancies, better care, accountability, and systemic change.
Aftershock Screening and Afterglow
In Her Honor Detroit begins with a special screening of the documentary Aftershock at the Detroit Institute of Arts.
Following the film, attendees will gather for an Afterglow reception and community discussion. The evening will create space to reflect on the documentary, honor families affected by maternal mortality, and discuss the urgent need for systemic change.
Doors open at 6:00 PM, and the film begins promptly at 7:00 PM.

A Night in Her Honor
The second evening will celebrate the strength, legacy, and impact of mothers while building awareness and support for maternal health justice.
Through storytelling, recognition, remembrance, and celebration, A Night in Her Honor will recognize advocates and community leaders working toward a future where every mother is seen, heard, valued, and supported.

Public Exhibition Day
The final day will feature a public exhibition at the Mothering Justice Home.
