Earlier this week, community voices grew stronger at Kensington Metropark
Earlier this week, Michigan United and Michigan Liberation hosted Trees of Liberation Day at Kensington Metropark — and Voting Access for All Coalition was proud to stand in solidarity. The day created space for reflection, connection, and hope, reminding us that building power begins with listening to each other and lifting up our shared stories.
Participants added their voices to the Tree of Liberation, sharing:
What gives them hope:
- The “seeds” they want to plant for the future
- What liberation and resistance mean in their lives
- Why they vote and what change they want their vote to create
The day’s activities — including mindfulness practices, women’s empowerment conversations, a Freedom Walk, and a drum circle — wove together a vision of community rooted in care and justice.
For many, including formerly incarcerated and directly impacted people, this was an opportunity to claim space, to be seen, and to affirm their place in shaping Michigan’s future.
Every reflection, every story, and every vote is a seed for the liberated future our communities deserve.
