We’re in Lansing today fighting a dangerous proposal—and your voice is needed!
Our Friday Community Meeting scheduled for today, May 16, at 12:30 PM is canceled as the VAAC team is in Lansing for a critical moment in the fight for voting access.
This morning at 10:00 AM, the Michigan Board of State Canvassers will vote on a misleading 100-word summary for a proposed constitutional amendment that would impose Documentary Proof of Citizenship (DPOC) requirements on every Michigan voter—even those already registered. It would also make absentee voting harder and create new documentation hurdles.
The summary the Board is being asked to approve hides these facts. It does not mention that:
- Over 8 million registered voters would be forced to re-verify their citizenship
- New voter registration would require a passport or birth certificate
- Absentee voters would need to include ID or Social Security info
- These requirements could disenfranchise thousands of voters
Even though the Board can’t stop the petition, it must ensure the summary is honest, complete, and not misleading.

How you can take action—right now:
- Email your public comments now!
📧 Send to: MDOS-Canvassers@michigan.gov
(It will be shared with the Board even if not read aloud.) - Request to speak remotely via Zoom
