Citizens for Prison Reform Call to Action

Keep the Letters & Calls Coming. SB493 for Oversight, Transparency, & Accountability in our Prisons
From our friends at Michigan Citizens for Prison Reform:

What better thing to do than to write a new quick reminder to Speaker Tate and Governor Whitmer? And remind them that we are still waiting for them to take action on SB493 and allow the House Government Operations Committee to hold a hearing.  If you have not sent your letter yet, now is the time!  It only takes a minute and a few clicks.  You may also call! If you have already sent your letter, you can edit the template and share something new: Speaker Tate Messaging:  Thank Speaker Tate for responding. Remind him that he holds the power and ability to allow the House to hold the SB493 hearing and that Oversight, Transparency and Accountability—pillars of a democratic society—are essential in prisons and jails where daily operations are overwhelmingly hidden from the public eye.
Governor Whitmer Messaging:  Ask Governor Whitmer and her staff if they received your message? Ask when she will respond?  Ask her to take a stand on behalf of some of Michigan’s most vulnerable families and individuals.  Remind her that Oversight, Transparency and Accountability—pillars of a democratic society—are essential in prisons and jails where daily operations are overwhelmingly hidden from the public eye.  Other Action Steps You Can Take:  Show up for Citizens for Prison Reform’s Press Conference and Rally on Thursday, May 16th at 10:00 – (Press Conference at 10:00, Rally at 10:30) meet us at the solitary cell in front of the Capitol, weather permitting.  If we are unable to meet outside, it will be held in the Mackinac Room – 5th Floor of the House Office Building.
