Your Comments Needed on State House Redistricting Maps

In late 2023, a federal court ruled that several Detroit-area legislative districts are in violation of the14th amendment. Seven state house districts and six state senate districts will be redrawn. The state house districts are currently being redrawn and will be voted on in March. The senate districts will be redrawn later this year.

The judges ruled that the districts had been drawn to unconstitutionally dilute Black voting power.

Now, the Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission is finalizing a new set of maps that give Black and Brown Michiganders a fair shot at electing legislators of their choosing.
