Virtual Day of Action for Documentary Proof Of Citizenship (DPOC) Community Storytelling

As our nonpartisan, pro-democracy coalition continues to organize to raise awareness about the red tape voter suppression ballot proposal, we want to invite individuals and organizations to participate in a virtual day of action on Thursday, February 12th.

Throughout the last several months, nonpartisan, pro-democracy organizations have been hosting “Know Before You Sign” and “Decline to Sign” training and information sessions to try and ensure voters know about this harmful proposal.

The goal of the day of action is simple: Amplify messaging about the impact that the documentary proof of citizenship proposal would have on voters, share stories from impacted voters and promote greater awareness about how the proposal would negatively impact voting access in Michigan.

Here’s how you and your organizations can participate:

1) Share “Know Before You Sign” or “Decline to Sign” content on social media channels  using the MI Storyteller Tool Social Toolkit

2) Record and post video testimonials highlighting the harmful effects of documentary proof of citizenship policies on eligible voters

3) Refer to the MI Storyteller Tool Social Toolkit and share the Vote Riders SoSha Story Recording Tool with members and encourage them to post video testimonials using the hashtag

4) Amplify Voters Not Politicians videos previously posted on Facebook and Instagram

5) Write and submit an op-ed or letter to the editor
