Join us for our next Friday VAAC Community Meeting with Michigan Collaborative to End Mass Incarceration focused on increasing public understanding of Michigan’s party convention process and candidate nomination systems.
We will unpack:
- What party conventions are and how they work.
- Why these moments matter for criminal legal reform, public safety, housing, economic justice, and the preservation of democracy.
- What is at stake as we move toward 2026.
This is about more than party politics. The policies that shape incarceration, reentry, housing instability, and community safety are rooted in political processes that begin here. This conversation is about clarity and preparation. It is about ensuring our communities are informed, aligned, and ready to engage in the work ahead. As we move toward 2026, the direction of our state will be influenced by decisions happening now.
VAAC Friday Community Meetings are a weekly space for connection, updates, and shared learning.
Join us as we prepare, organize, and build collective civic power across Michigan.
Many community members, particularly young people, returning citizens, and individuals navigating housing instability, have limited access to information about how candidates are selected and how political institutions function. This lack of access can create barriers to informed participation. Everyone is welcome! Pass on the invitation and bring a friend!
The program will also include neutral, factual information about offices commonly addressed through convention processes, including Secretary of State, Attorney General, Michigan Supreme Court, State Board of Education, and public university trustees.
