You probably already know, but anti-voter lawmakers in Lansing and Washington D.C. have been introducing bills that would bring about oppressive voter restrictions and make it harder for everyday Michiganders to exercise their right to vote.

In addition to those threats, two groups are attempting to circulate petitions this year that mimic the voter suppression tactics of SAVE Act. The so-called Committee to Protect Voters Rights was approved to begin gathering signatures last month, and now, a second group known as Americans for Citizen Voting has introduced a similar ballot initiative requiring documentary proof of citizenship to be put on the November 2026 ballot. This group is already planning to gather signatures starting on June 1st.

This is voter suppression disguised as a citizen initiative and backed by self-interested politicians and national special interest groups. We need to act RIGHT NOW if we want to stop Michigan citizens from losing their access to the ballot.
