The House just passed the SAVE Act. If the Senate does the same, more than 21 million eligible voters could lose access to voter registration — not because they aren’t citizens, but because they can’t produce the specific documents this bill demands.
Contrary to its name, the SAVE Act doesn’t protect democracy — it threatens it.
Voting Access For All Coalition stands in firm opposition to this dangerous legislation. If enacted, it would strip millions of eligible citizens of their fundamental right to vote.
Despite its misleading title, the SAVE Act is not about election security. Our elections have been repeatedly proven secure and accurate. This bill is an attack on democracy and a direct assault on marginalized communities. It is, in effect, a modern-day poll tax, targeting the very people who have long faced systemic barriers to the ballot box.
Who Would Be Harmed?
This bill disproportionately impacts:
Military families
Justice-impacted and formerly incarcerated individuals
People who’ve legally changed their names — including transgender people, married individuals, and those who’ve changed their names for religious or personal reasons
Unhoused citizens and those with unstable housing
Naturalized citizens
Tribal voters
Young voters

This bill targets the very people who already face the most hurdles at the ballot box:
Black and Brown voters, low-income communities, young people, naturalized citizens, and others who are often excluded.
