This session will feature the Wayne State University Center for Behavioral Health and Justice, introducing the Sequential Intercept Model—a framework identifying opportunities to divert and deflect people away from jail and prison. They will also share insights on the Stepping Up Initiative, aimed at reducing the over incarceration of people with mental illness.
Additionally, the session will feature Street Democracy, whose team will discuss Street Court, a model providing defense counsel, social service case management, and a self-representation app to help individuals navigate the court system outside of Detroit’s jurisdiction.
The Michigan Statewide Violence and Incarceration Prevention Learning Community is supported by Emergent Justice, Friends of Restorative Justice, Michigan Roundtable for Just Communities, MI-CEMI, and the Detroit Justice Center.
