From Labels to Lives: The Power of Person-Centered Language

The words we use matter. Language has the power to shape public perception, policy, and how we engage with systems of justice. That’s why VAAC is thrilled to welcome Michigan Collaborative to End Mass Incarceration as a special guest at our weekly coalition meeting on Friday, March 7th to discuss their Impact Language Glossary—a powerful tool for reframing narratives and ensuring dignity in advocacy.

This conversation will explore how person-centered language can challenge harmful stereotypes, shift public attitudes, and build a stronger, more just movement for change. Whether you’re an advocate, organizer, or simply passionate about criminal justice reform, this session is for you.

📅 Date: Friday, March 7, 2025

Time: 12:30 – 1:30 PM ET

📍 Where: Zoom, during our weekly Friday coalition meeting.

Join us as we dive into the glossary, share insights, and discuss how we can all be more intentional in the language we use.
