• Legal presence
• Social Security number

• Legal name changes, when applicable

Photocopies are not accepted unless otherwise noted by the Secretary of State. Some electronic documents may be accepted as proof of Michigan residency.

Residents experiencing homelessness may be able to use an HMIS ID and profile sheet showing their Social Security number, along with proof of legal presence.

Residents who have experienced incarceration may be able to use an MDOC ID and Basic Information Chart showing their Social Security number to meet identity and Social Security documentation requirements.

Please review VAAC’s Mobile Office document checklist before attending so you know which documents to bring for your transaction.

Anyone who does not have enough documentation to meet the standard requirements may request a document exception. Requests must be submitted to Michigan Secretary of State Mobile Office Coordinator Kelly Davis at DavisK7@Michigan.gov at least two days before the clinic.
