Why ID access matters
A valid ID can affect a person’s ability to access housing, employment, public benefits, banking, travel, and other essential services. For many people, including returning citizens, people experiencing housing instability, and low-income residents, getting or replacing an ID can be difficult because of cost, transportation, document requirements, or other barriers.
ID access is also connected to civic participation. In Michigan, voters have options if they do not have photo ID when voting, but having current identification can still make it easier to register, update voter information, and navigate many public systems.
This clinic is one way to bring ID support directly into the community.
