Voter Education and Meal Service at Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries

Friday, October 30

VAAC ambassadors and volunteers joined Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries to help serve meals while connecting with residents about the upcoming election.

Alongside meal service, our team discussed what was on the ballot, answered voting questions, and reminded residents that people without a Michigan ID or stable housing can still vote.

These conversations gave residents an opportunity to ask questions and get information about their voting rights before Election Day.

Thank you to our VAAC ambassadors and volunteers and to the staff at Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries for welcoming us and helping make these conversations possible!

Halloween with the Redford Brightmoor Initiative

VAAC joined our longtime partner, Redford Brightmoor Initiative (RBI), for its Halloween event in Detroit!

Our team connected with community members, answered questions about voting, discussed what was on the ballot, and offered rides to the polls for early voting.

RBI continues to connect families with essential goods and services, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to make voter education part of its community activities.

A big thank-you to the RBI team for continuing to welcome VAAC and for the work you do with families in the community!

Election Day: Helping Community Members Get to the Polls

Tuesday, November 3

Election Day brought together VAAC volunteers and ambassadors to help community members get to the polls, including many who were voting for the first time.

Nine volunteer drivers provided individual rides, and six busloads of voters headed to the polls. Our team visited eight facilities, including shelters, transitional housing programs, drug and alcohol treatment facilities, and a career training and mentorship center serving young returning citizens.

For many voters, getting to the polls required more than knowing when and where to vote. Our volunteers and ambassadors helped people navigate the registration and voting process and provided transportation when it was needed.

The photos from Election Day show some of those voters alongside the VAAC volunteers and ambassadors who helped them get there.

To our volunteers and ambassadors: Thank you for your patience, dedication, and follow-through. You gave people your time, helped them work through the steps of registering and voting, and made sure they had a ride when they needed one.

And to everyone who cast a ballot, especially those voting for the first time: We’re glad we got to share that day with you.
