Don’t Wait Until Election Day! You Can Still Register and Vote This Weekend in Michigan

Still need to register to vote? Want to cast your ballot before Election Day? You can do both this weekend!

Saturday, October 31, and Sunday, November 1, are the final two days of Michigan’s required statewide early voting period before the November 3 General Election.

And there’s another important option: All Michigan city and township clerks must offer at least eight hours of weekend office hours for voter registration and in-person absentee voting.

That means even if you missed the October 19 online registration deadline, you still have time to register and vote.

Here’s how to make your plan for the final days before Election Day.

Not Registered Yet? Visit Your Clerk’s Office This Weekend!

You can still register to vote, or update your registration address, in person at your city or township clerk’s office.

Since October 20, registration for the November 3 election has been available only in person, with proof of residency.

You can use documents such as a utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, or government document showing your name and current address. Proof of residency may be shown on paper or electronically.

After registering, you can request an absentee ballot, fill it out, and submit it right there at your clerk’s office.

You can register and vote during the same visit!

Every city and township clerk must offer at least eight hours of office hours over the October 31–November 1 weekend. Exact hours and locations vary by community.

Find your clerk’s office and weekend hours at mi.gov/vote.

Already Registered? Vote Early Through Sunday, November 1!

Michigan’s required nine-day early voting period runs from October 24 through Sunday, November 1.

Every community must offer at least eight hours of early in-person voting each day during this period.

Early voting works much like voting on Election Day. You’ll check in, receive a ballot, mark your choices, and insert your completed ballot into a tabulator.

Your early voting location may be different from your regular Election Day polling place. You must go to an early voting site assigned to your community.

Some communities also offer additional early voting days, including Monday, November 2. Check your local schedule before making plans for that day.

Find your assigned early voting site, dates, and hours at mi.gov/vote.

Have an Absentee Ballot? Return It Now!

If you’ve already received your absentee ballot, don’t wait to return it.

For most Michigan voters, completed absentee ballots must be received by their city or township clerk by 8:00 PM on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3.

With Election Day this close, return your ballot in person rather than relying on the mail.

You can return it to your clerk’s office or an authorized secure ballot drop box. You can also bring your completed absentee ballot to your assigned early voting site and ask election workers about submitting it there.

If you’re returning your ballot in its envelope, make sure you’ve signed the ballot return envelope as instructed.

You can check whether your clerk has received your absentee ballot through the Centro de Información para Votantes de Michigan.
