Friday, September 11: VAAC Friday Community Meeting

Start the afternoon with our virtual Ballot Proposal Deep Dive: Michigan Ballot Initiatives Explained.

Nomi Joyrich, Michigan Director for Jews For a Secular Democracy, will join us to break down key Michigan ballot initiatives, what they propose to change, where they are in the process, and what voters should know before the November election.

Friday, September 11: DFA 313 Votes: Our Power at the Polls

Later Friday, VAAC will be at DFA 313 Votes: Our Power at the Polls at Pages Bookshop in Detroit.

Organized by the Michigan League of Conservation Voters Education Fund, the event will focus on youth participation in democracy and the role of women’s voices in the political process. The evening will include a screening of Selma Sisters March On, followed by a Q&A and refreshments.

VAAC will provide information about this year’s Michigan ballot proposals, with particular attention to Proposal 1, the constitutional convention question.

Saturday, September 12: Community Voter Education at Crossroads of Michigan

VAAC and Crossroads of Michigan are bringing voter education directly to Detroit residents with a free community program on voting rights and the November election.

Participants will be able to check their voter registration status, register if needed, go over a sample ballot, learn about voting options, and ask questions about the voting process. A hot lunch will be served.

This event is part of VAAC’s outreach for Día Nacional del Registro de Votantes, which takes place September 15.

Saturday, September 12: Dally in the Alley

VAAC will also be at Dally in the Alley with Voters Not Politicians.

The free annual community event takes place throughout Detroit’s Cass Corridor.

Monday, September 14: Barbershop Talks with MDOS: Your Voice, Your Vote, Your Power

VAAC and community partners are bringing nonpartisan voter education into spaces where people already gather.

Barbershop Talks: Your Voice, Your Vote, Your Power will bring community members, barbers, salon professionals, civic organizations, and the Michigan Department of State together to talk about voter registration, voting options, election information, and the role trusted community spaces can play in connecting people with voting resources.

VAAC is working on this initiative with When You Vote I Win, Speak Life, Michigan League of Conservation Voters Education Fund, BARCOS, and the Michigan Department of State.

Tuesday, September 15: National Voter Registration Day at the Robert J. Delonis Center

On National Voter Registration Day, VAAC will bring voter education to the Robert J. Delonis Center en Ann Arbor.

The event will provide practical information about voting, including opportunities to check voter registration, learn about voting options, review what voters can expect on their ballots, and ask questions about the voting process.

Wednesday, September 16: Selma Sisters March On Documentary Screening

VAAC will be tabling at a screening of Selma Sisters March On at Wayne County Community College’s Downtown Campus.

The 26-minute documentary tells the story of Alice and Denise, who participated in the historic Selma-to-Montgomery voting rights march as teenagers. Alice and Denise will be present for the event.

Thursday, September 17: Civic Action Assembly

VAAC estará presente Civic Action Assembly at the University of Detroit Mercy.

This interactive civic engagement event will feature tables hosted by campus and community organizations, with information about voter registration, ballots, contacting representatives, reading legislation, and other ways to get involved in civic life. Free pizza, event merchandise, and take-home civic engagement materials will also be available.
