VAAC and community partners are continuing to bring ID services, voter registration, and community resources directly into Michigan communities.

Having current identification can help people secure housing, find employment, receive public benefits, open a bank account, travel, and access other essential services. It can also support civic participation.

Three upcoming clinics will connect residents with Michigan Secretary of State services and help people understand what documents they need to obtain or update identification.

Today: ID Clinic at Brightmoor Back to School Market

VAAC is co-hosting an ID Clinic today during Brightmoor Artisans Collective’s Annual Back to School Market in Detroit.

The Michigan Department of State will be on site, and Secretary of State services may include:

• First-time Michigan driver’s licenses and state IDs
• License and state ID renewals, replacements, and corrections
• REAL ID conversion
• Vehicle title transfers and registration
• Disability parking placards and license plates

Eligible Michigan residents may qualify for a free state ID. Fees may apply to other Secretary of State transactions, and services are subject to available time and required documentation.

VAAC will also provide voter education and registration support.

The Back to School Market will include local vendors, community organizations, free wellness check-ups, a youth bike giveaway while supplies last, and fresh produce and pantry resources.

The Michigan Department of State will be on site, and the full cost of a Michigan State ID will be covered for people who qualify.

VAAC will be there providing voter education and registration support.

Pull Up & Plug In will return this fall with another opportunity to access Michigan State ID services, voter education and registration, community resources, and support.

VAAC will provide voter education and registration support alongside Jews For A Secular Democracy and the Michigan League of Conservation Voters.

The documents you need depend on the Secretary of State service you are requesting. People seeking ID services should review the required documents before attending.

First-time license and state ID applicants generally need documentation showing legal presence, Social Security number, identity, and Michigan residency, as well as documentation of legal name changes when applicable.
