VAAC en la comunidad: Eventos recientes, fotos y educación para votantes en el sureste de Michigan

Over the past few weeks, Voting Access For All Coalition has been participating in community events across Southeast Michigan, supporting partner organizations, sharing civic and ballot education, and helping eligible voters register.

At many events, VAAC’s role looks similar: we show up to participate, support the organizing organizations and their missions, answer questions, provide nonpartisan voter information, and remind community members that voting rights in Michigan are broader than many people realize.

This roundup highlights a few recent events where VAAC connected with community members. It is not a complete list of every event or conversation, but it offers a snapshot of where VAAC has been and what our team has been doing.

Recent community events

VAAC joined When You Vote I Win’s 2nd Annual Juneteenth Cookout at Pebble Creek Park in Southfield, connecting with residents during a community celebration focused on Juneteenth, civic participation, and community connection.

VAAC also co-hosted the Committee for the 1st Amendment Concert Watch Party and Voting Rights Community Art Project in Southgate with Metro indivisible de Detroit y Indivisible Down River 734. The event brought community members together around voting rights, creative expression, and civic education.

On June 20, VAAC participated in Día de los Ciudadanos que Regresan at the Spirit of Detroit, hosted by JustUsNow. June 20 is now officially recognized as Día de los Ciudadanos que Regresan in Detroit, and the event created space to recognize returning citizens and connect people with community resources.

VAAC joined Representative Brenda Carter’s Fair Chance Returning Citizens Resource Fair in Pontiac, sharing voting rights information and voter registration support with community members.

VAAC also participated in two Silence the Violence events in Detroit. The first was End Gun Violence Michigan’s 19th Annual Silence the Violence March at Church of the Messiah. The second was the Evento de extensión comunitaria del Centro de Ayuda Comunitaria Charles W. Reid, held in partnership with Wear Orange and Moms Demand Action.

At these events, VAAC shared information about voting rights, upcoming elections, voter registration, and ways community members can stay engaged in civic life.
