La intersección entre las drogas, la negritud y la clase: una conversación con Shirley Williams

Rev. Dr. Louis Forsythe will interview another long-time friend, Shirley Williams, who brings a rich history of community service and a deep love of Detroit area people who face challenges at the intersection of drugs, anti-Blackness and class.

Shirley believes that the people she works with in drug counseling and women’s empowerment groups are much like ourselves, though we often prejudge them and see them as too different. Our personal unwillingness to interact with a wider variety of people puts us in silos that make all of us even more vulnerable to division, hate, racism, shame, fear, disempowerment, and ongoing drug abuse among us.

Louis and Shirley will explore questions about our need to feel superior to others, our discomfort with people unfamiliar to us, and our unwillingness to meet people where they are. Together we will explore what other approaches could better serve us personally and our communities.
