Voting Access for All Coalition (VAAC) will be at the Cumbre de Impacto Social de los Detroit Pistons en Saturday, April 11, creating an interactive civic engagement experience where people can learn, play, and connect around voting rights and access.
This event connects to the priorities of Mes de la segunda oportunidad y Mes de la Vivienda Justa and brings together a range of services and resources, including housing support, expungement assistance, driver’s license restoration, job readiness support, mental health services, and voter registration.
VAAC will be hosting a Civic Power Engagement Station designed to meet people where they are and provide clear, accessible information about civic participation.
At the Civic Power Engagement Station, you can:
- Learn about their voting rights, including after incarceration
- Get information about ID access and voter registration
- Speak directly with VAAC ambassadors and get questions answered
- Sign up for leadership and ongoing engagement opportunities
VAAC will also lead an interactive basketball-themed civic learning game where participants can test their knowledge, compete for points, and win prizes.
Participants can answer questions about voting eligibility, civic participation, and community leadership, earn points, and receive prizes. The game makes information accessible while creating space for conversation.
This work reflects what VAAC sees across communities. Many people face barriers to accessing identification, clear information about their rights, and opportunities to participate in civic life.
For returning citizens in particular, access to accurate information about voting is often limited or shaped by misinformation. Creating space for direct conversation, education, and engagement helps address that gap.
Mes de la segunda oportunidad highlights the importance of restoring opportunity for people returning home from incarceration, while Mes de la Vivienda Justa brings attention to ongoing barriers to stable housing. brings attention to ongoing barriers to stable housing.
VAAC will be on-site throughout both sessions of the summit, connecting with community members and providing support.
