After a long and much needed holiday break, VAAC is returning for our first community meeting of the year.
In the face of ongoing assaults on our democracy, our response in this moment will shape the future of our communities. This is a time to organize with intention, align our efforts, and move forward with shared resolve.
VAAC Friday meetings are a space for connection, updates, and shared learning. We bring together directly impacted people, organizers, advocates, and community members from across Michigan to engage around voting access, the criminal legal system, and the issues shaping our communities.

Each week, we focus on timely topics including policy developments, community organizing, and civic education. There is always space for questions, conversation, and collective strategy.
At our first meeting back, we will assess where we are as we head into the 2026 midterms and align our efforts around a clear strategy for the year ahead. We will begin with a high level overview of VAAC’s organizational priorities and a review of our core program focus areas:
- Jail voting
- Civic education
- Community leadership development
- Policy advocacy and systems change
- Voter access and outreach
We will also reflect on how we work as a community, including how we show up, communicate, make decisions, and care for one another as we move through a demanding and critical year.
We look forward to welcoming you back and beginning 2026 with purpose, honesty, and shared commitment.
