DESCRIPTION:\nMetro Detroit Barber College in Detroit Michigan Hosts an Ope
 n Discussion on the 2024 Election: To foster community dialogue and encour
 age civic engagement\, a special event will be held at The Metro Detroit B
 arber College to discuss the upcoming 2024 election. This gathering\, titl
 ed "The Barbershop Vote: Black Men and the Power of the Ballot”\, will t
 ake place on 10/18/24 from 10:00am – 4:00 pm at Metro Detroit Barber Col
 lege.Along with the election discussion\, attendees will have access to th
 e Wayne Health Mobile Health Unit offering free blood pressure checks\, di
 abetes screening\, primary care physician referrals and other health scree
 nings. This initiative aims to prioritize both the civic and physical well
 -being of Black men in the community.Barbershops have long been recognized
  as cultural hubs within Black communities\, serving not only as spaces fo
 r grooming but as venues for meaningful conversations on societal issues. 
 This event seeks to leverage that tradition by bringing Black men together
  to discuss the election's key issues\, candidates\, and the importance of
  voterparticipation\, while also promoting health awareness.Event Details:

 onversations about the political future and the issues that matter most to
  Black men.Why It Matters:Black men\, as a voting bloc\, have unique persp
 ectives and concerns that are often underrepresented in the political disc
 ourse. By creating a space to discuss these issues and addressing communit
 y health\, this event aims to empower participants to make informed decisi
 ons both at the polls and regarding their personal well-being.This is a co
 llaborative effort with Metro Detroit Barber College\, Shelby Health Equit
 y Advocates\, MDP Voter Turnout Project\, Wayne County Democratic Black Ca
 ucus and a host of other community-based organizations focused on empoweri
 ng Black communities through education\, dialogue\, and civic engagement.
