Esa es una estad\u00edstica asombrosa en general, exacerbada cuando consideramos \u201cdiagnosticados\u201d porque muchos no ser\u00e1n diagnosticados. Y sin un diagn\u00f3stico adecuado, empezamos a normalizar conductas derivadas de nuestras enfermedades. La fortaleza mental es una necesidad para sobrevivir al confinamiento f\u00edsico, una necesidad que rara vez o nunca se discute. No es de extra\u00f1ar teniendo en cuenta que la salud mental y el encarcelamiento no se mencionan juntos, aunque a menudo se utiliza uno para el otro. Para poseer fortaleza mental, nuestra salud mental debe estar en buenas condiciones, lo que requiere controles regulares con uno mismo o simplemente crear un espacio para liberar los factores estresantes diarios. Para aquellos de nosotros que estamos encarcelados es un trabajo, un trabajo que no es necesario hacer solos. Los familiares, amigos y otras mujeres y hombres en nuestro espacio carcelario pueden brindar asistencia y controlarse unos a otros con regularidad. Iniciar conversaciones que disminuyan el estigma que rodea a la salud mental, especialmente con los hombres. Las condiciones a las que estamos expuestos no conducen a un yo mental saludable. Debemos ser m\u00e1s conscientes del yo completo. Mientras nos preparamos para regresar a la sociedad, a nuestras comunidades, a nuestras familias, debemos estar completos o al menos trabajar en ello. Las estad\u00edsticas dicen que 1 de cada 5 estadounidenses sufrir\u00e1 una enfermedad mental en un a\u00f1o determinado. Las personas empobrecidas, sin hogar, encarceladas y con problemas de abuso de sustancias corren un mayor riesgo de sufrir una mala salud mental. El encarcelamiento tiene su propia categor\u00eda. Sin embargo, las personas encarceladas posiblemente tambi\u00e9n podr\u00edan marcar casillas adicionales. Estamos siendo almacenados y liberados, algunos de nosotros despu\u00e9s de d\u00e9cadas. No he tocado una gota de alcohol desde aquella horrible noche. Me ofrecieron un generoso acuerdo con la fiscal\u00eda, pero mi estado mental no me permit\u00eda aceptar mi culpa y afrontar la verdad. He tomado todas las clases que ofrece el Departamento Correccional de Michigan sobre prevenci\u00f3n de la violencia (Cage Your Rage, justicia restaurativa y muchas clases basadas en la fe) para comprender por qu\u00e9 ocurri\u00f3 mi delito, c\u00f3mo afect\u00f3 a mis v\u00edctimas y a la comunidad. Este proyecto de ley no inundar\u00e1 el estado con criminales peligrosos.
