Al menos 17% de los encarcelados en Michigan tienen 55 a\u00f1os o m\u00e1s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Las investigaciones muestran que las personas envejecen para dejar de cometer delitos y que las personas encarceladas que cumplen sentencias m\u00e1s largas por da\u00f1os graves en el pasado son las que tienen menos probabilidades de volver a causar da\u00f1o en nuestras comunidades. De hecho, muchos ciudadanos que regresan dedican su tiempo a mejorar y hacer m\u00e1s seguras nuestras comunidades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hay personas encarceladas en Michigan que est\u00e1n rehabilitadas y ya no representan una amenaza para el p\u00fablico. Pero actualmente no hay forma de que un juez modifique sus sentencias.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Afortunadamente, no tiene por qu\u00e9 ser as\u00ed. Hay un mejor camino a seguir para Michigan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La soluci\u00f3n comienza con la aprobaci\u00f3n de la Ley de Sentencia de Segunda Vista. Esta legislaci\u00f3n permitir\u00eda a los jueces reconsiderar sentencias para personas que hayan cumplido al menos una d\u00e9cada de prisi\u00f3n y hayan demostrado su rehabilitaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La palabra clave es &quot;reconsiderar&quot;. La legislaci\u00f3n propuesta sobre Second Look incluye intencionalmente niveles de revisi\u00f3n antes de que una persona pueda ser liberada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La segunda mirada es especialmente importante dado el fracaso pasado de Michigan a la hora de brindar representaci\u00f3n legal adecuada a las personas indigentes.
