VAAC ambassadors have been out across Southeast Michigan, bringing voter and civic education into community gatherings, back-to-school events, conversations about voting rights, and spaces where people come together for resources, culture, and connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At each event, we answer voting questions, help eligible residents register to vote, share accurate information about voting rights in Michigan, and connect civic participation to the issues people are already talking about in their communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019ve been sharing photos and highlights from these events on social media. Take a look at some of the places VAAC has been, then follow us to keep up with where our ambassadors will be next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unite & Rise for Voting Rights<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

VAAC was deeply involved in the League of Women Voters\u2019 Unite & Rise for Voting Rights gathering in Ann Arbor, part of the Nationwide Day of Action on August 8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The evening centered on a livestream of Tres marchas, dos hermanas, un puente<\/em>, a documentary about two teenage sisters who participated in the 1965 Selma marches, followed by a Q&A and local conversation about voting rights, civil rights, and the work still in front of us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

VAAC Executive Director Angela Davenport spoke during the program, and VAAC helped lead the local discussion. We also want to lift up Cassy Jones-McBryde, Todd Williams, Blake Lindsay, and Dion RiggenEl for their presence and contributions to the evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Much appreciation to the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Ann Arbor, the League of Women Voters of Michigan, the organizers, panelists, volunteers, and everyone who came ready to listen, learn, and take part in the conversation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Los buenos problemas siguen vivos<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Oak Park showed up for Good Trouble Lives On with music, speakers, family activities, food, mutual aid, and conversations about voting and civil rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

VAAC joined other voting rights organizations at Parkwoods Plaza to provide voter and civic education, answer questions, and share information about voting rights in Michigan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The morning also included a mutual aid drive benefiting Greater Greater Women of Metro Detroit, with donations of diapers, wipes, baby supplies, clothing, toys, feminine hygiene products, and other essentials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The gathering was part of the John Lewis Good Trouble Lives On weekend of action, honoring his legacy of nonviolent action for voting and civil rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Much gratitude to the organizers, Greater Greater Women of Metro Detroit, participating groups, volunteers, vendors, donors, and everyone who spent the morning with us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Detroit 9th Precinct Book Bag Giveaway<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

VAAC spent Saturday at the Detroit 9th Precinct Book Bag Giveaway at the Heilmann Center, where families came out for backpacks, food, music, popcorn, and community connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

VAAC was on site providing voter and civic education, answering questions, and helping eligible community members with voter registration support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Much appreciation to the Detroit 9th Precinct, Brighter Detroit Community Center, Ravendale Community Center, the volunteers, and everyone who helped bring the event together. We also appreciate every family who stopped by to connect with VAAC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peace Over Pistols Back 2 School Event<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

VAAC spent Saturday afternoon at the Peace Over Pistols Back 2 School Event in Detroit, connecting with families and community members as students got ready for a new school year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alongside the music, food, school supplies, and family activities, VAAC provided voter education, answered voting questions, and helped eligible community members register to vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brightmoor Artisans Collective Annual Back to School Market and ID Clinic<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

VAAC spent Friday afternoon in Brightmoor at Brightmoor Artisans Collective\u2019s Annual Back to School Market, where families came together for local vendors, fresh produce, wellness services, community resources, and activities for young people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

VAAC co-hosted an ID Clinic at the market, helping connect community members with Secretary of State services for state IDs, driver\u2019s licenses, renewals, replacements, corrections, and other transactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The clinic brought access to identification services directly into a community event where families were already gathering for resources and support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a busy afternoon, and we\u2019re grateful to Brightmoor Artisans Collective, the organizations and service providers who helped make the day possible, and everyone who came through the market and stopped to connect with us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mitten Barber Expo<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

VAAC was in the mix at the Mitten Barber Expo in Novi, where barbers, vendors, educators, and community members came together for a full day centered on the craft and culture of barbering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We connected with attendees throughout the event, sharing voting information and bringing voter education into a space built around community, conversation, and connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
