{"id":258929,"date":"2026-07-17T01:11:07","date_gmt":"2026-07-17T05:11:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/votingaccessforall.org\/?p=258929"},"modified":"2026-07-17T01:11:10","modified_gmt":"2026-07-17T05:11:10","slug":"presidents-election-speech-does-not-change-michigans-2026-elections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/votingaccessforall.org\/es\/2026\/07\/presidents-election-speech-does-not-change-michigans-2026-elections\/","title":{"rendered":"El discurso de campa\u00f1a del presidente no cambia las elecciones de Michigan de 2026."},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/6b9a3a0d2c010d98b7f526991901e114\">On Thursday, July 16, President Donald Trump used a national address to raise doubts about past elections and release documents related to the 2018 and 2020 elections.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/archives\/opa\/press-release\/file\/1376761\/dl\">The address returned to allegations that have already been examined through investigations, audits, and reviews.<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/archives\/opa\/pr\/joint-statement-departments-justice-and-homeland-security-assessing-impact-foreign\">Those reviews did not find evidence that votes were changed or that the outcome of the 2020 election was altered.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most importantly for Michigan voters, nothing in the speech changes Michigan election law, election dates, or voting procedures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Michigan\u2019s August 4 Primary Election and November 3 General Election are proceeding as scheduled.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"michigan-elections-are-run-locally\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Michigan elections are run locally<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/sos\/-\/media\/Project\/Websites\/sos\/Election-Administrators\/Election-Dates.pdf\">Michigan elections are administered by state and local election officials, not by the President or the federal government.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/sos\/elections\">Local clerks and election workers register voters, issue ballots, operate early voting sites and Election Day polling places, process absentee ballots, and report election results<\/a>. They must follow Michigan law and established security procedures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Michigan\u2019s election system is decentralized across the state\u2019s cities and townships. Republican, Democratic, and independent election officials and community members work together to administer each election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A presidential speech does not change these responsibilities or give the federal government control over Michigan elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"michigan-s-voting-options-have-not-changed\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Michigan\u2019s voting options have not changed<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/sos\/elections\/voting\">Eligible Michigan voters will continue voting under current state law.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the August 4 Primary Election, voters can:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/sos\/elections\/voting\/absentee-voting\">Vote with an absentee ballot<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vote in person with an absentee ballot at their city or township clerk\u2019s office<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/sos\/elections\/voting\/early-in-person-voting\">Vote early in person at their assigned early voting site<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vote at their polling place on Election Day<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/sos\/elections\">Michigan\u2019s statewide early voting period begins Saturday, July 25 and continues through Sunday, August 2. Election Day is Tuesday, August 4.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/sos\/elections\/voting\/register-to-vote\">Monday, July 20 is the last day to register to vote or update a voter registration online or by mail for the August Primary<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/sos\/elections\/voting\/register-to-vote\">Starting July 21, voters can still register through 8:00 PM on Election Day, but they must do so in person at their city or township clerk\u2019s office with proof of residency.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"michigan-elections-include-checks-and-safeguards\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Michigan elections include checks and safeguards<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/sos\/elections\/security\">Michigan election officials use multiple safeguards before, during, and after elections.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These include testing voting equipment before it is used, maintaining paper ballots that can be reviewed, following procedures for securing and tracking ballots, allowing credentialed observers, and conducting post-election audits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/sos\/resources\/news\/2025\/10\/13\/2024-postelection-recount-and-audit-report-confirms-michigans-elections-are-secure-and-accurate\">Michigan\u2019s reviews of the 2024 General Election included recounts, a statewide ballot audit, and hundreds of procedural audits<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/sos\/resources\/news\/2025\/10\/13\/2024-postelection-recount-and-audit-report-confirms-michigans-elections-are-secure-and-accurate\">The Michigan Bureau of Elections reported that those reviews confirmed the security and accuracy of the election<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Election systems should continue to be reviewed, tested, and improved. That work is different from repeating unsupported claims that can cause voters to distrust elections without evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"why-election-protection-partners-are-concerned\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why Election Protection partners are concerned<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Election Protection partners are concerned that repeating claims about the 2020 election six years later can create confusion and reduce confidence ahead of the 2026 elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They are also concerned about broader attempts to interfere with election administration or shift authority away from the state and local officials who run elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those concerns do not mean voters should doubt whether Michigan\u2019s elections will take place or whether their ballots will be counted.
