Esos l\u00edderes merecen reconocimiento. Pero la historia tambi\u00e9n est\u00e1 marcada por personas comunes cuya persistencia ha protegido y expandido la democracia de maneras m\u00e1s discretas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En nuestras comunidades, esto se traduce en ancianos negros cuyos nacimientos nunca fueron registrados adecuadamente, ciudadanos que regresan y reconstruyen sus vidas despu\u00e9s del encarcelamiento, y residentes de Detroit que enfrentan la inestabilidad de la vivienda mientras a\u00fan as\u00ed se presentan a votar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Para muchas familias negras, el acceso a la documentaci\u00f3n, la estabilidad en la vivienda y la plena participaci\u00f3n c\u00edvica nunca han estado garantizados. El derecho al voto se luch\u00f3, defendi\u00f3 y protegi\u00f3 frente a los impuestos electorales, las pruebas de alfabetizaci\u00f3n, la intimidaci\u00f3n y la exclusi\u00f3n. Hoy en d\u00eda, las barreras pueden adoptar diferentes formas, pero existen dentro de ese mismo arco hist\u00f3rico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cuando se emite un certificado de nacimiento de manera incorrecta, cuando los registros se pierden o est\u00e1n incompletos, o cuando el transporte y el acceso a las oficinas gubernamentales son limitados, se crean obst\u00e1culos adicionales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Estas realidades reflejan una larga historia de acceso desigual. Las comunidades negras han seguido organiz\u00e1ndose, votando y liderando a lo largo de cada generaci\u00f3n.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La participaci\u00f3n se ha mantenido fuerte y sostenida a lo largo de las generaciones, en sistemas dise\u00f1ados para hacer que el acceso al poder c\u00edvico sea dif\u00edcil o imposible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El Mes de la Historia Negra nos invita a recordar que la participaci\u00f3n c\u00edvica siempre ha requerido un esfuerzo sostenido. Ha requerido organizaci\u00f3n, educaci\u00f3n y apoyo comunitario.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El trabajo de VAAC contin\u00faa esa tradici\u00f3n al brindar educaci\u00f3n al votante y acceso c\u00edvico directamente a albergues, espacios de reinserci\u00f3n y entornos comunitarios donde el acceso ha sido limitado o denegado durante mucho tiempo. Las historias que escuchamos reflejan una larga tradici\u00f3n de resiliencia y liderazgo en las comunidades negras.
