Fue nombrada miembro del Comit\u00e9 de Derechos Civiles, un comit\u00e9 permanente que era responsable de educar a sus hermanas y hermanos sobre sus derechos sindicales, as\u00ed como sobre sus derechos constitucionales. Es por eso que durante toda mi vida adulta, mi misi\u00f3n ha sido hacer lo que sea necesario para mejorar el acceso al voto y garantizar que todos puedan participar en elecciones justas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Me involucr\u00e9 con VAAC a trav\u00e9s de uno de los fundadores, Carrie Hatcher-Kay. Ella se dio cuenta del trabajo que est\u00e1bamos haciendo en Grand Rapids y me atrajo. Siempre digo que nuestras reuniones VAAC son mi hora favorita de la semana. Me empujan hacia adelante.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00bfC\u00f3mo ha moldeado su experiencia su visi\u00f3n de la votaci\u00f3n?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Cuando comenc\u00e9 a trabajar en el acceso al voto, estaba al tanto de los problemas electorales en lugares como Florida o incluso Detroit. Pero ingenuamente pens\u00e9 que Grand Rapids no ten\u00eda esos problemas como largas filas, personas rechazadas injustamente en las urnas, lugares de votaci\u00f3n inaccesibles. Sab\u00eda que era urgente, as\u00ed que arregl\u00e9 que se instalaran rampas improvisadas mientras las urnas a\u00fan estaban abiertas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Empec\u00e9 a ver c\u00f3mo los lugares de votaci\u00f3n suburbanos funcionaban sin problemas con filas cortas, pero los vecindarios m\u00e1s pobres no estaban bien atendidos. Y me di cuenta de que establecer una relaci\u00f3n con el secretario de la ciudad ser\u00eda muy necesario para cambiar o solucionar los problemas que presenciamos en el futuro.
