El hacinamiento, la falta de acceso a servicios de salud mental y m\u00e9dicos adecuados, la falta de programaci\u00f3n, la gran escasez de personal que conduce a la fatiga y el abuso absoluto, los edificios anticuados, los sistemas de alcantarillado y calefacci\u00f3n y refrigeraci\u00f3n, y m\u00e1s, han afectado a Women&#039;s Huron Valley. <br><br>COVID-19 ha exacerbado los problemas existentes en el Valle. Las mujeres se ven obligadas a vivir en condiciones de hacinamiento que conducen a una exposici\u00f3n excesiva al COVID-19. El MDOC ha proporcionado m\u00e1scaras delgadas de algod\u00f3n que no se ajustan bien durante la pandemia. El resto del personal que trabaja en \u00e1reas abarrotadas, como comedores y edificios de programas, no tiene la obligaci\u00f3n de vacunarse o hacerse la prueba diariamente, cada dos d\u00edas o incluso semanalmente. Esto ha llevado a un aumento inmenso. El \u00faltimo brote en el Valle se produjo a trav\u00e9s del personal civil del comedor.  <br><br>A lo largo de los \u00faltimos dos a\u00f1os, las mujeres han tenido poco acceso al patio grande o a la casa de campo: deben elegir una opci\u00f3n solo una vez a la semana (excepto las personas que tienen trabajos de cohortes cruzadas, obtienen patio grande dos veces). Hay 23 asientos en un sal\u00f3n social y hay entre 155 y 180 mujeres en cada unidad (en el lado oeste). Las mujeres en el lado oeste tienen literas dobles en espacios de 10 por 10 con un inodoro y un lavabo en la habitaci\u00f3n y un escritorio y una silla. No hay espacio para el movimiento. Estas celdas se construyeron como celdas individuales. No deben tener literas dobles durante tiempos que no sean de pandemia, y mucho menos en tiempos de pandemia. El MDOC y la oficina del gobernador seguir\u00e1n culpando a la escasez de personal y la falta de control de a qui\u00e9nes se ven obligados a enjaular como los principales problemas que contribuyen a esta crisis actual. <br><br> Argumentamos que el gobernador podr\u00eda hacer m\u00e1s para aliviar las condiciones de hacinamiento en el Valle. Pod\u00eda escuchar investigaciones sobre ciencias sociales, salud p\u00fablica y criminolog\u00eda: la mayor\u00eda de las mujeres en prisi\u00f3n han estado sujetas a traumas graves en sus historias y, despu\u00e9s de cumplir largos per\u00edodos de tiempo, NO representan ning\u00fan riesgo para la comunidad. En realidad, estas mujeres podr\u00edan servir como mentoras para comunidades y j\u00f3venes en dificultades. Sus circunstancias atenuantes son profundamente \u00fanicas e inmensas, y el gobernador debe llamar a expertos, fuera de los parlantes del MDOC, para explorar formas de abordar las condiciones cr\u00f3nicamente inhumanas y los problemas y realidades espec\u00edficos de g\u00e9nero de WHV. Deber\u00eda buscar reducir a la mitad la poblaci\u00f3n carcelaria de mujeres y, finalmente, depender de alternativas al encarcelamiento por los da\u00f1os causados por las mujeres en nuestras comunidades.
