Gracias por tomarse el tiempo para compartir su historia con nosotros. Para comenzar, \u00bfquiz\u00e1s pueda compartir algo de su historia de fondo con nuestros lectores?<br><\/strong>Despu\u00e9s de casi 12 a\u00f1os en prisi\u00f3n y ahora en libertad por<strong><em>&nbsp;cerca de&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong>20 a\u00f1os, no tuve el camino m\u00e1s f\u00e1cil de regreso a la comunidad. Hay una gran cantidad de servicios y recursos para las personas que regresan de la c\u00e1rcel y la prisi\u00f3n hoy en d\u00eda, pero en ese entonces no hab\u00eda realmente ninguna opci\u00f3n para una persona que no fueran las negativas que los llevaron al encarcelamiento. Para m\u00ed, mis objetivos eran simples en ese momento; ir a la universidad y buscar un empleo que me permita la oportunidad de usar traje y corbata todos los d\u00edas. Si bien mis ambiciones eran f\u00e1ciles, no entend\u00eda c\u00f3mo la sociedad me impuso un est\u00e1ndar diferente. La transici\u00f3n inmediata para m\u00ed despu\u00e9s de la prisi\u00f3n fue imposible; Debido a mis errores y elecciones que me llevaron a prisi\u00f3n, fui desafiado, criticado, reprendido, insultado y menospreciado por cada cosa positiva.&nbsp;<strong><em>paso<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;una vez que estaba de vuelta en la sociedad. La iron\u00eda de mi historia es que us\u00e9 cada palabra negativa como motivaci\u00f3n y combustible para mantener el enfoque y el compromiso conmigo mismo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En mis esfuerzos educativos, obtuve un t\u00edtulo de asociado, una licenciatura y una maestr\u00eda, as\u00ed como tambi\u00e9n obtuve empleo en \u00e1reas e industrias que normalmente estaban cerradas a personas con antecedentes penales. Mi est\u00e1ndar siempre ha sido alto para que cualquier persona que regrese de la c\u00e1rcel o prisi\u00f3n no tenga que sufrir emocional, mental o financieramente como yo lo hice cuando me liberaron. Todo dentro de m\u00ed me empuja a capacitar a todos los j\u00f3venes negros y marrones para que no entren en una c\u00e1rcel o prisi\u00f3n y brindarles todos los recursos para que no reincidan si experimentan alg\u00fan tipo de detenci\u00f3n. Esto se hace en mis discursos, mis escritos y como emprendedor social.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u00bfDir\u00eda que ha sido un camino tranquilo y, si no, cu\u00e1les son algunos de los mayores desaf\u00edos que ha enfrentado en el camino?<br><\/strong>Como hombre de color que ha experimentado la prisi\u00f3n, ha habido tantos golpes que he experimentado debido al color de mi piel y al estigma que conlleva ser una persona que experiment\u00f3 el encarcelamiento. Se necesita mucha confianza y aplomo para no dejar que la gente defina tu narrativa. Se necesita a la persona en el espejo para crear su propio camino hacia el \u00e9xito; la sociedad puede hacerte pedazos si no encuentras tu fuerza para hacer una diferencia para ti y tu comunidad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u00bfPuedes contarles a nuestros lectores m\u00e1s sobre lo que haces y lo que crees que te diferencia de los dem\u00e1s?<br><\/strong>Puedo definirme de muchas maneras diferentes, pero la palabra que uso para describirme de manera m\u00e1s consistente es resistente. Tener el coraje y la creatividad para impactar el cambio cultural es una cosa, pero tener la resiliencia para seguir adelante es lo que me ha diferenciado de los dem\u00e1s. Si observa las cosas en las que estoy involucrado en torno a la reforma carcelaria y las relaciones raciales, esos esfuerzos no se est\u00e1n realizando en ning\u00fan otro lugar del pa\u00eds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Estoy muy orgullosa de formar parte de un movimiento que est\u00e1 cambiando la faz de los correccionales carcelarios. Hay muchas cosas que me hacen sonre\u00edr, pero prestar juramento como embajador adjunto del alguacil del condado de Genesee&nbsp;<strong><em>es uno<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;de esas cosas que cambia la identidad de qu\u00e9 y d\u00f3nde las personas con condenas por delitos graves pueden utilizar sus talentos. Trabajar dentro de la c\u00e1rcel como mediador, educador, asesor y mentor cuando la mayor\u00eda de los delincuentes trabajan con la polic\u00eda como informantes o soplones cambia el libro de texto de lo que una persona puede y no puede hacer despu\u00e9s de la c\u00e1rcel y la prisi\u00f3n; Estoy muy feliz de ser un agente de cambio involucrado en el movimiento.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u00bfC\u00f3mo piensas en la felicidad?<br><\/strong>Lo que me hace m\u00e1s feliz es ser proactivo en conversaciones tab\u00fa y delicadas sobre raza, polic\u00eda, pol\u00edtica, reforma de c\u00e1rceles\/prisiones y progreso comunitario. Hay tantos momentos que brindan la oportunidad de educar a las personas y marcar la diferencia.
