SUMMARY:VAAC Statewide Jail Voting Work Group
DESCRIPTION:The VAAC Statewide Jail Voting Work Group brings together advoc
 ates\, organizers\, community members\, directly impacted people\, and par
 tners working to expand voting access for eligible voters in Michigan coun
 ty jails.\n\nMany people held in jail are still legally eligible to vote\,
  including people awaiting trial and people serving misdemeanor sentences.
  Too often\, eligible voters in jail are not given clear information about
  their rights\, voter registration\, absentee ballot access\, or how to pa
 rticipate in an election while detained.\n\nThese meetings focus on statew
 ide coordination\, county-level outreach\, relationship building with cler
 ks and jail administrators\, tracking jail voting practices\, identifying 
 barriers\, sharing updates from counties across Michigan\, and developing 
 consistent strategies to ensure eligible voters in jail are not left behin
 d.\n\nAs the midterm elections approach\, this work requires communication
 \, follow through\, and active participation. Whether you have been involv
 ed in jail voting efforts before or are just learning about this work\, yo
