DESCRIPTION:The Hotter Than July Annual Gathering for LGBT Issues features 
 “The Mayoral Candidate Forum” and “The State of the Movement.” The
  Annual Gathering welcomes Detroit leaders in education\, health\, faith\,
  and advocacy on Friday\, July 25 at the University of Michigan - Detroit 
 Center\, located at 3663 Woodward Ave\, Detroit\, MI 48201. The day begins
  at 8:30 with breakfast for attendees.\nThe Hotter Than July Annual Gather
 ing for LGBT Issues is co-presented by dynamic legislative advocacy organi
 zations and programs: LGBT Michigan\, Promote The Vote\, Michigan United\,
  Michigan League of Conservation Voters\, and Pride Decides.\n“We’re t
 hrilled to present this year’s event\,” says A. Nzere Kwabena. “Our 
 community has made a meaningful impact both locally and nationally. These 
 efforts have laid the groundwork for the next generation of LGBT+ individu
 als to build upon and continue growing. The committee has worked diligentl
 y to create a gathering where our community and allies can come together t
 o share in education\, inspiration\, and fellowship.”\nThe Hotter Than J
 uly Annual Gathering for LGBT Issues\, established in 1996\, is an all-day
  conference. Its focus is to identify solutions to LGBT+ concerns. Held ev
 ery Friday of each Hotter Than July\, previous workshops have included dis
 cussions on same sex marriage\, gender-specific issues\, legal matters\, a
 nd the concerns of older adults.\n“This year\, the Hotter Than July Annu
 al Gathering for LGBT Issues aims to focus on two current concerns: our po
 litical activism and our health and well-being\," says A. Nzere Kwabena\, 
 executive director of LGBT Detroit.\nThe Mayoral Candidate Forum\, present
 ed in the morning\, hosts candidates seeking the office of mayor of The Ci
 ty of Detroit. At press time\, the Saunteel Jenkins Campaign and the Mary 
 Sheffield Campaign have confirmed attendance. The discussion is facilitate
 d by Roland Leggett from Michigan League of Conservation Voters.\nThe Stat
 e of the Movement\, facilitated by Wesley Watson from Michigan League of C
 onservation Voters\, is a panel discussion that concentrates on the curren
 t state of affairs for LGBT+ persons statewide. Panelists include Chase Ca
 ntrell\, City Councilmember Gabriela Santiago-Romero\, and Candidate for C
 ity Council Denzel McCambell.\nThis is a free event and all are welcome. T
